Awaken the Lotus Within
The focus of my spiritual studies this
year in Sacred Mystery School is all about deeper levels of self-love
and self-acceptance. I believe this is the biggest and most basic
journey we are all doing – to embrace both shadow and light aspects of
our being. All are of the light - no right and wrong, good and bad aspects of our being, all is divine.
Lotus roots emerge from a muddy lake
bottom to sprout seeds that may have lain dormant for thousands of
years. At the same time beautiful lotus flowers blossom from the muddy
depths, untouched by impurities.
In the Asian religions and cultures,
especially, in Buddhism and Hinduism, the lotus flower is the
embodiment of perfection. It defines the capacity of the soul to expand
and embrace the beauty of life with a clear conscience.
The various coloured blooms of the lotus -white, pink, red, blue or purple -each hold special significance. I have chosen the delicate pink lotus that, according to eastern philosophies, denotes the state of a person's mind. For those of us, who have strong mind-based programs that take over control at times from our heart’s guidance, this feels perfect. A closed pink bud represents the stage where one is transcending to the path of spirituality, whereas a full-bloom pink lotus means enlightenment or the stage where nirvana is attained. The lotus bud is compared with a folded heart or soul, which has the ability to blossom or awaken to realize this divine truth. This symbolizes the journey from the illusions of our perceptions of our “dark aspects” to acceptance that they hold the light of spiritual illumination.
I was inspired to gift you with this FREE download MP3 that I’ve called “Awaken Lotus Within”.
It’s a
short 10 minute meditation to centre your energies. I believe it’s
increasingly valuable to practise mini-meditations as needed during the
day when you are pulled “off-centre”. In this way we train the brain to
change old reactive patterns that become habits. These habits limit us
in life. In Hinduism, the lotus represents the energy centres of our body, known as chakras, and is associated with beauty, prosperity, knowledge, fertility, and above all, eternity and spirituality.
What colour is your lotus today?
Is it the pure white beauty of the white lotus, said to denote the purity of mind (Bodhi), the calmness and serenity of human nature, and spiritual perfection? The white lotus is associated with the female representation of Buddha, which is goddess White Tara.
A fully bloomed red lotus symbolizes big-heartedness and generosity. It is also associated with Avalokitesvara, who is a 'bodhisattva', the 'Lord who looks down at the world', or Padmapani, meaning, 'Holder of the lotus'. Avalokitesvara is also known as the God of compassion.
The blue lotus signifies wisdom and knowledge, and stands for the victory over the senses. It has a special and sacred place in Egyptian culture, and is rare to spot. It defines a person's control over his mind and spirit, to let go the materialistic aspirations in life and rise to a selfless soul. The blue lotus flower is not fully open, the bud being closed towards the centre, which is never revealed. This partially opened bud state, gives a message that one should not stop learning and attaining wisdom in life. In Buddhism, it is associated with the Bodhisattva of wisdom, known as Manjushree, and Prajnaparamita, the one who signifies the 'perfection of wisdom'.
The purple lotus signifies mysticism, and represents the esoteric sects of Buddhism. It is unique and rare. This flower is portrayed either as a bud, i.e. closed towards the core, or full-bloomed, which reveals the heart.
